TruGreen Gloucestershire Wins Rookie Of The Year Award

A Gloucestershire-based Lawncare company is celebrating after collecting a prestigious business award in franchising after only 2 years in business.

TruGreen Gloucestershire is celebrating after scooping the “Rookie of the Year Award” at ServiceMaster Ltd.’s annual business awards ceremony.

Rookie of the Year is awarded to new franchisees that have been in business for less than two years. It recognises the licensee who has substantially grown the business, based on Customer Level Revenue.

TruGreen launched across Gloucestershire in February 2018 and was formed by Mike Simmonds, who has a background in business development and growth in both the private and public sectors. Mike started TruGreen with the aim of providing both exceptional lawns and service.

During the first twelve months, the business grew quickly and has a loyal and growing customer base who work in partnership with TruGreen to get lawns which both customers and TruGreen are proud of. Working across the residential and commercial market, TruGreen aims to continue growing and giving customers a leading service and lawn.

Mike commented “I am overwhelmed to have received this award. It feels great to win the award as it shows we are doing what we said we would. Being recognised by peers is always nice however the main award is the positive feedback we receive from our customers.

The business came with a challenging start-up with the need to complete lawn care treatments, along with running and growing the business. Every day involves wearing the hat of a lawn care technician, along with completing sales, marketing, finance and administration duties. No day at TruGreen is the same but I love it!” finished Mike

The rookie of the Year award is a pinnacle achievement within the ServiceMaster Franchisee network as it demonstrates drive and ambition early on in the business.

When asked what Mike felt has added to his early success he said: “Running your own business means that life is busy so a supportive friend and family network is really important. My wife Sophie has been a big support, along with my two boys Charlie and Bertie who always put a smile on my face when things have been tough. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our customers for their support and engagement over the last 12 months. We really believe that when we work together we can get great results for all to enjoy.

Nigel Grocott worked with us last year and is still with us now. Nigel has been a huge part in our growth and customers often praise his attitude and quality of work. Earlier this year we also welcomed Daniel Smith into the business who has followed Nigel’s lead in delivering exceptional work and service. “Finishes Mike

Managing Director of ServiceMaster, Alan Lewin said: “It was great to see so many of our franchise community and suppliers gathered together to engage in the Summer Summit event. I am always appreciative of the commitment that our franchisees and suppliers make in taking a day out of their business to invest time with peers, colleagues & the franchise support team at ServiceMaster.

“We recognise achievements in the categories of Growth, People, Customer and Invest, these headings form part of our organisational “North Star” which we use as is a simple guide to cultural performance and strategic execution for all stakeholders across our community.

“We recognise the big obvious stuff like customer service accolades, established franchisees that have grown their revenues by in excess of £1m+, and new franchisees that have got great results from their startup, and beaten their financial projections” Finished Alan

Recognising some of the less obvious, but nonetheless, culturally vital parts of franchising is imperative to ServiceMaster and the Summer Summit conference allowed this to happen.

Awards were given for not only growth, but also to those that have given back to their community, or employees of franchisees that have demonstrated their commitment to the brand attributes engaging in initiatives and actions with colleagues and customers well beyond their job description, very often in their own time at their own expense.

“Mike had a clear vision in what he set out to achieve in the first year of his TruGreen business, with clearly defined business and marketing plans, he has set a standard for others to follow.” Finished TruGreen brand manager, Steve Welch
